International Conference on Flood Resilience
 - Predicting private sewer collapse to help utilities manage flooding and pollution events

Since October 2011, privately owned sewers have been transferred in ownership under Section105A of the Water Act of 2003 to the ten water and sewerage companies that operate in England and Wales. This transfer in ownership represents a significant increase in sewerage asset stock for these organisations who know little about the extent and condition of the network. Given this current knowledge gap surrounding the location, condition and operational performance of these assets – coupled with a very low to non-existent proactive maintenance schedule - the potential for flooding and pollution events due to poor condition is highly likely.

Water Sensitive Urban Design| Seminar

On 27th August 2013, I arranged for key stakeholders to participate in a jointly hosted seminar by AECOM and South West Water.

The purpose of the event was to explore how Water Sensitive Urban Design and Sustainable Drainage planning can be used in the South West to deal with the current and increasing strains that are being placed on the water cycle.

A White Paper from the seminar is currently under development and will be published here when availiable. Authors include; South West Water, Environment Agency, Local Councils in the South West and the University of Exeter
