MY PROJECTS

2016
Yorkshire Water
Decision making framework

As project manager for below ground infrastructure assets my responsibilities include: development of the modelling approach, production of the business case and embedding the planning process into Yorkshire Waters business as usual processes.

AECOM
Civil Infrastructure EMIA - Business Improvement Projects

Responsible for the delivery of Executive lead initiatives in AECOM’s Civil Infrastructure business across Europe, Middle East, India & Africa. These initiatives include: financial and KPI dashboard reporting; employee retention and recruitment; cross market and geography sector strategies; and the implementation of low cost design centres.

2015
Tatweer Building Company, Saudi Arabia
Business Intelligence improvement programme

I spent two months in Kingdom analysing and improving business intelligence for £8.6BN construction programme of 2,517 schools in Saudi Arabia. This lead to development and delviery of an executive level business intelligence system which provides programme management and project controls information across the entire programme in a single online platform.

2010 - present

2014
South West Water
Investment planning optimisation & outperformance

Project manager for the modelling and development of an optimised asset management strategy using Whole Life Investment Cost Optimisation software (WiLCO). The project was commissioned to help identify optimal asset maintenance strategies for the Clients Communication Pipe asset stock. More than 8% Totex efficiencies (c. £1.7M / AMP) were identified by changing business policies around replacement vs repair rates and by varying levels of proactive renewals over time.

2010 - present

South West Water, EA, Local Councils & Academia
Water Sensitive Partnership

I was instrumental in establishing the first Water Sensitive Partnership and working group in the UK which is a collaboration between AECOM, South West Water, the Environment Agency, Local Councils and Academia.

2013
South West Water
PR14

Technical lead for the development of risk based asset modelling solutions for South West Water’s PR14 business planning submission to Ofwat for both clean and wastewater buried infrastructure. These tools integrate spatial visualisation with risk based performance models to understand the business and customer impact of different investment scenarios..

AECOM R&D
Sewer Rehabilitation Optimisation

Developer of a sewer rehabilitation optimisation tool used by sewerage engineers and planners. The tool acts as an asset investment Decision Environment (known as aiDE). “aiDE” provides an integrative mechanism for water companies to evaluate sewer rehabilitation investment programmes. The decision environment utilises a multi-objective genetic algorithm to identify optimal solutions considering conflicting business objectives, ie, failure risk and cost.

2012

South West Water
Communication Pipe Modelling

Project Manager and Technical Lead - for an asset performance model used to identify optimal investment strategies for communication pipes and boundary boxes. The asset stock is created in GIS using rule sets and assumptions. The performance of the notional asset stock is modelled using a calibrated Weibull deterioration model against recorded failure data. A strategy model utilises this performance information to informed simple cost vs. benefit scenarios calculations for the purpose of business strategy planning.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water
Sewer Deterioration Modelling

Project manager - for the production of a semi-markov deterioration model calibrated on historic CCTV condition inspection information. This is a tactical model, visualised and applied at regional level via GIS. Prioritisation is at individual pipe level and incorporates both the forecast collapse rate and also historic service failure, including flooding and blockages.

South West Water
S105a Investment Planning

Strategy consultant and technical lead for the implementation of an analytical modelling framework for newly transferred Section 105a sewers. The analytical framework employed GIS processes, alongside deterioration and investment models, to predict the likely extent and condition of SWW’s S105a network.

2011

Severn Trent Water
Elan Valley Aqueduct Asset Management Plan (AMP)

Asset Management Specialist - to assist in the production of a 50year  AMP for a strategically critical aqueduct. The AMP is founded on a quantified risk analysis approach, using mathematical and statistical modelling to calculate the probability of failure and the ensuing associated consequences.

I was responsible for;
development of a bespoke structural stability assessment model;

  • application of reliability theory / risk analysis;

  • production of a methodology to accurately capture restoration costs; and

  • coordination of the outputs for the production of the AMP using prioritisation and optimisation techniques

South West Water
Sewer Rehabilitation Programme

Engineering Lead & Assistant PM - for SWW’s AMP5 sewer rehabilitation programme. An innovative forecast deterioration and collapse model was integrated with large scale asset management principals to tactically undertake a comprehensive sewer rehabilitation programme (c. £4m per year). I was responsible for the implementation of the deterioration model, co-ordination of sub-contractors, development of processes and best practise guidelines, management of AECOM’s engineering team.

2010

Wessext Water
Service Reservoir Inspection Programme

Coordination & Engineer - for Wessex Waters clean water reservoir inspection programme using remotely operated vehicles (ROV’s). 66 reservoir assets were inspected over a 6 month programme. I was responsible for programming the inspections, management of the sub-contractors and the specification of the remedial repairs.

Wessext Water
Reservoir Remedial Works Packages

Engineer - this project required the undertaking of man-entry structural condition inspection to ascertain the nature and extent of remedial works of the client’s assets. In accompaniment to my inspection I produced a schedule of rates which was used by the client for budgetary approval.

Wessext Water
Emergency Planning Report

Author & Engineer - for an emergency report reviewing the vulnerability of Wessex Waters clean water distribution network, proceeding terrorist action or an event causing catastrophic failure of a key economic production site. The project involved detailed investigation and analysis of the company’s distribution network to determine re-zoning procedures and availability of alternative treated water sources.
